I first watched 45 Years at the Berlin Film Festival in February last year, and I wasnt able to shake it off for weeks. Having re-watched it again this week for the purpose of this review, Im happy to report it hasnt lost any of its incredible power.Im going with a full five out of five for 45 Years. The film creeps upon you slowly and just doesnt let go.

The direction and screenplay (intertitles are used) is understated, but younger viewers might find themselves stifling a yawn or two at times. The slow pace however, can make 45 Years somewhat brisk run-time seem much longer. On the other hand, the film is perfect for the elderly to see, be intrigued by and savor.

With its strong premise, the film delivers as promised. It is sentimental, yet feels a bit unfinished and hollow as it does not satisfy your yearning about the characters. The old number, "Smoke gets in your eyes", is beautifully incorporated into the narration. "45 Years" is a nice watch.
