10 of the most horrifying mutants from the TMNT toy line!

10 of the most horrifying mutants from the TMNT toy line!

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a true phenomena that has ruled the world from the late 80s to the mid 90s and has miraculously made a modern comeback thanks to a new cartoon show and a very successful Michael Bay-Produced film.  Since the 80s Playmates have produced 100s of action figures for the TMNT toy series and today were going to take a look at 10 of the turtles most monstrous friends and foes!

Mutagen Man
Im sure most of you are well aware of this character.  Easily one of the coolest toys of my childhood, Mutagen Mans torso is clear and hollow allowing kids to fill it with water.  Also included were bits of guts that could freely float around.

Wyrm
Made up of various slugs and worms Wyrm was one of my favorite toys growing up.  With a few swift pulls a number of small worms would come tumbling out of his mouth.  What more could a deranged kid ask for?

Anthrax
An exterminator from Dimension X, he has four arms, an ax, and a giant stinger. Nuff said.

Krang
...Hes a gigantic mutated brain. Yep.

Baxter Stockman
Half man-half fly!  While he was pretty cool in the show my fondest memories of the guy are from Turtles in Time.  His recent incarnation however, is much more terrifying and should be hitting stores soon!

Muckman
A big heap of sewage and trash with ooze pouring through various orifices, its easy to see why kids fawned over this character.  If Playmates gets their way the modern version of this character will be nightmare inducing!

Pizzaface
I can still fondly remember the day I received this figure from my Grandmother.  Pizzaface is a deranged pizza chef that had a bad encounter with a bit of ooze.

Scumbug
Half exterminator-half cockroach, working for Playmates during this period must have been a lot of fun.  Scumbug is an extremely creepy character and remains one of my favorites from the earlier line.

Dream Beavers
The latest series draws a lot of inspiration from past horror films, the episode Dream Dimension was heavily inspired by the Elm Street films and featured a group of monster Beavers that preyed on teenagers through nightmares.  One of the beavers was even voiced by Robert Englund!

Squirrelanoid
The Squirrelanoids first appeared in Invasion of the Squirrelanoids in the 2012 TMNT series.  Clearly inspired by the Xenomorph, the mutant characters prove to be a pretty dangerous foe.

Honorable meantion
Universal Monster Turtles
I couldnt do a TMNT post on here without mentioning the two awesome waves of Turtles figures inspired by the Universal Monsters films!  These are easily some of the coolest designs the original line produced.  Each figure featured a number of accessories and best of all they all lit up with the lights went out.  Playmates made great use of glow paint with the initial run.  Man, I really need to track these toys down.
