10 Minute Large Canvas Art DIY

Happy Monday! Hope you had a fabulous weekend :)  Hockey madness has begun here - with two kids playing and a third swimming competitively, we are officially outgunned, lol.

What about that title? Sounds impossible, right? Well, what if you thought of your art as a place to simply add a bold splash of colour, and painted out a huge canvas in a solid shade? Thats exactly what this is - a canvas painted out black, as found on Rue. It becomes part of the composition, grounds the whole wall, and functions as decor. Almost like colour-blocking a wall, but so much less permanent, and really, you could change this with the seasons if you wanted - a deep merlot for winter, a beautiful azure for summer, etc...





Thats about as much time as I have to make art these days! You? Thoughts?

8th Digital Art Yearbook Project

1. Chose and photo and copy to your desktop. Go to Fowler Classroom > Materials > School Photos.

2. Drag the photo onto the PS icon to open it in Photoshop

3. Make the photo more interesting. Change it from a dull, wintery photo into something more fun!

4. Try images adjustments. Go to Image (at the top) > Adjustments. Try the different menus. “Vibrance”, “Hue/Saturation” and “Color Balance” will all change your picture dramatically.

5. Now try Filters. Go to Filter (at the top) > Filter Gallery. Go through the folders to try different filters. You will notice whatever colors you have chosen will be used in the filters, so you may want to change your colors.

6. If you know how to use Photoshop, you may want to try cutting and pasting in parts of other pictures. You can use the “copyright free” photos links on caarts to look for other photos.

7. If you need some inspiration, look at the past student examples HERE

8. When you are finished, save a final copy into your folder, and the HAND IN WORK folder. Name it YourLastNameYearbook.psd

A Floating Shelf And Some Art

Last week I shared the chairs I painted for our dining room, today I want to share how I decorated the only full wall in the room with two simple items.

 Since I like to change things up I knew a floating shelf would be the best way for me to display items throughout the year easily. So I went to Ikea and bought their "Lack" shelf , which was only $20. It was super easy to install, I just needed an extra set of hands to help me keep it level since it is so long.


As luck would have it, I found this set of three prints at Ikea as well. (Sorry they arent available online or I would give you the link) They are the perfect size and are colorful without being over powering.

I cant wait to create some of my own art as well to put on the shelf for holidays or other special occasions, like my sons graduation this Spring.



A little bit of time and money made a big impact on this space. Definitely going to buy more of these shelves so I can put them in the kids rooms to display their treasures!

6th Digital Art Mandalas

We will be using Adobe Illustrator to create "mandalas". This project will use art and math skills, along with reflecting on big questions like "what brings you peace?"

1. What is a mandala?
2. Look at some mandalas
3. Vocabulary words: symmetry, icon, serenity, radial, reflection, concentric
4. Videos: Time lapse Tibetan monk mandala, Sand Mandala video, Digital mandala installation
5. How to create concentric elements in Adobe Illustrator
